About Me

My first contact with teaching occurred in high school when I would spend some of my spare time helping my classmates with some physics lessons. Since then, I have had about 10 different tutees, at levels ranging from GCSE to higher education. Naturally, I focus more on mathematics, physics and engineering science, not only because of my aerospace engineering background but also because I find those topics fascinating.

At the end of the day, being good at maths, or physics, is not just about being able to blindly solve an equation or to remember the quadratic formula, it all boils down to problem solving. However, if one wants to solve a problem, it is important to relate to it. Therefore, my primary objective when tutoring someone is to make them realise how a particular piece of maths or physics fits in their everyday life. From there it is much easier to tackle a problem. I also try to help the tutee visualise the concepts and the related problems. The end goal is to get the tutee interested and eager to learn more about the topic, without just studying for an exam.

Being the stubborn science-enthusiast that I am, I decided to pursue my studies by starting a PhD in aeronautical propulsion. Despite this fairly specialised field of study, I like to keep an open-mind so I regularly read on some diverse topics, ranging from biology to philosophy. When I’m not stuck in my lab trying to find that one bug in my code, I can also be found playing guitar, running (ideally in some hilly area near my hometown) or playing tennis.

Arthur - Student

"Yannis is someone who is there for you when you need him, even when he's busy, and yet still takes the time to respond, help, and guide us. Yannis' teaching style has allowed me to learn things I never thought I could understand. Thank you."

Elise - Parent

"Yannis is a patient, talented, and attentive young man. His explanations are clear and truly help to make progress. Thanks to him, my daughter was able to overcome her difficulties and regain her interest in mathematics. And that was a real challenge!"

Nicolas - Colleague

"I had the pleasure of studying alongside Yannis for 2 years at the university, and I am impressed by his seriousness and rigour in both group and individual projects. Yannis is very pedagogical and is always ready to explain something when asked, especially in anything related to math and physics. I highly recommend him as a teacher!"
